Ruruka Hanayama (華山 るるか, Hanayama Ruruka^?) is one of the main characters in Jewelpet Happiness.

Personality

Ruruka is a nice, somewhat tomboyish girl with a snarky streak. She acts like a big sister figure to Labra, though she sometimes tests her patience. Ruruka is also very helpful, as seen when everyone is managing the café.

Appearance

Ruruka has dusty brown, almost gray, hair and dark blue eyes. It is held up in a bun most of the time, though sometimes she lets it down in pigtails.

History

Ruruka is a ninth-grade student at Jewel Academy and a close friend and roommate of Chiari and Nene. Like them, she helps the Jewelpets out at the café. She also serves as Labra's babysitter, friend and big sister figure to her.

Etymology

• The name Ruruka is written in hiragana (るるか), which has no special meaning. However, when written in kanji (星々華, 瑠々華 or 瑠々花), it could possibly mean:
  • 星々華 - "star" (星) (ru) and "flower, petal" (華) (ka).
  • 瑠々華 - "lapis lazuli" (瑠) (ru) and "flower, petal" (華) (ka).
  • 瑠々花 - "lapis lazuli" (瑠) (ru) and "flower, blossom" (花) (ka).
• Ruruka's surname Hanayama means "flower, petal" (華) (hana) and "mountain, hill" (山) (yama).
